Just something I needed to say...

I don’t do yoga to escape. I do it because without it I wouldn’t have the tools to deal with life's everyday challenges, the difficulty of raising a neurodivergent child, or the ability to stay engaged, sane and compassionate in the current political environment.
I also believe yoga is inseparable from social justice. Yes, it’s a way to create a connection between our bodies and our minds, but it also leads us to the understanding that we are all connected to one another. That interconnectedness means that when one suffers, we all suffer.
For the most part I keep my personal beliefs off this page and out of my classes, but to be true to myself and teach authentically, I must be able to express these deeply held principles when I feel it’s necessary. I’m not going to bombard you with my opinions, but don’t expect any “love & light” spiritual bypassing here. Occasionally, I will teach a class that creates a refuge when we’re feeling exhaustion due to the injustices happening in this country. On occasion I’ll post something that calls those injustices out.
My teaching is not about checking out. Instead, I encourage you to check in. To notice the creation of space in your body and mind and to explore what comes up. It’s my hope that one thing that does come up is more compassion for yourself and others so you can stand up and/ or speak out when needed. We’re all in this together!
With love & gratitude,
Justina
